Periodically, building codes increase in their requirement for total R-value and have almost doubled since the early 1990’s. Generally, if insulation levels are below approximately 12 inches in depth, attic insulation can be increased.
In the fall is normally the best time because you can save money on heating costs through the winter. Consider adding more insulation in the spring or summer to save on cooling costs (electricity).
