How it works
Natural resistance to heat
Cellulose fibre is naturally resistant to heat and will not melt or degrade as most other insulation will when exposed to flame or high temperatures.
Because cellulose fibre will only char under direct fire exposure it will provide longer heat protection to adjacent building materials, and therefore allow building occupants more time to escape than would be the case with most other insulation materials.
Cellulose fibre insulation products are rated at Class I. In several demonstration burns, buildings with cellulose have retained structural integrity significantly longer than buildings with alternate insulation products. The video from CIMA, provided here, is a pretty powerful incentive to use cellulose over fibreglass.
